Use gates and stiles to cross fences, hedges and walls

Leave livestock, crops and  machinery alone

Take all of your litter home

Help to keep all water clean

Protect wildlife, plants and trees. 

Do not make any unnecessary noise

Take special care on country roads

Take a map, either Explorer, pathfinder or Landranger

Take a compass so you can follow the bearing of an unmarked path

Don`t forget a torch, first aid kit and a whistle

Don`t be too ambitious with distance and allow time for stops and diversions

Check the weather forecast before setting out

Always wear boots and take warm and waterproof clothing

Plan your walk in advance

Take a drink and snack with you even if you plan to stop at a pub

If wearing shorts take some form of leg protection for use on overgrown paths
